Sonus core can be installed under floated or glued hardwoods, ceramic tile & stone, rigid core LVT (SPC & WPC) carpet & carpet tile, and in some instances, it can be installed under concrete or gypsum topping (consult factory first)
We specially manufacture a product called Sonus multi 3 that is 3mm thick and is sanded on one side, producing a smooth finish without knife marks. Sonus multi 3 is made from recycled PUR foam chips and rapid renewable cork and offer excellent acoustic performance without the risk of plasticizer migration. Plasticizer migration can occur when using SBR rubber under PVC and is accelerated by heat and light. We never recommend installing an SBR rubber-like our Sonus core under a vinyl / LVP floor.
There are many factors that affect performance, these include the building construction and type of floors being installed, but typical improvement is typically 15-20+ decibel reduction (please call the factory to discuss your project so we can provide the correct recommendation)
The reason for various thicknesses is that many factors, such as building construction and type of floor covering being installed, all play a factor in determining which thickness or Sonus core to use. Typically, a light wooden construction assembly would need a thicker underlayment, such as a 6mm, 10mm, or 12mm. In contrast, a heavier assembly, such as a 6” slab that has a ceiling below, could use a thinner underlayment of 2mm, 3mm, or 5mm. (Please consult the factory to determine which thickness will yield maximum performance based on your building construction and the type of floor being installed.)
Yes, we recommend using insulation – fiberglass, rockwool, etc. this will reduce the sound reverberating in the stud/joist cavity
